I introduced my family to skiing in the 1991/92 season over Christmas break. My wife and our four kids, ranging from age 9 to 11, all had a wonderful experience. The owner was very willing to ensure our winter vacation was enjoyable without breaking our budget! They guaranteed free ski lessons until all were able to at least make it down the easiest chair run. The slopes were gentle enough for beginners and there were some nice "blue" runs with bumps (a favorite for locals).
Coffee Mill employs snowmaking machines to make up for what Mother Nature cannot deliver early in the season. Around Christmas time the snow was a little sparse on some of the intermediate runs but was very enjoyable for the novice skier.
Working in combination with a local motel, Coffee Mill has offered combination lodge/lift ticket packages at very reasonable rates. At roughly 90 minutes from St. Paul and 30 minutes from Rochester, it makes for a nice secluded weekend getaway. When you stay in Wabasha, be sure to experience the 19th century charm of the Anderson House Hotel. Legend has it that it is the oldest hotel west of the Mississippi River. The cuisine is definitely of four star quality!
